Family Locator

A brilliant friend of mine, Maeve, has family locator so she can track her daughter, who has much in common with Daughter. She suggested I look into it, so I did. I have it set up and activated one Daughter's phone. The only downside was I had to turn text messaging back on on her phone in order to do it. I blocked it on her phone a number of years ago after she subscribed to several premium services. She's very excited that she now has text messaging. I ordered the smallest package for her, and told her that if she sent or received more than 5 a day it would cost lots of money and she'd have to pay. We'll see how that works.
.
I like the idea of being able to locate her any time I want to-- of course, that means she'll have to have her phone on, but I wouldn't have called her last night if I'd been able to just log in and locate her. If I do allow her more freedom when we move, it will be helpful to be able to check on her location. I can set it up to automatically send me her location at various times during the day. I think I'm going to like this. I don't think she will....

Glad you figured it out! I've been much more comfortable about allowing independence since discovering family locator. I've taught her how to use it so that she can locate me as well -- just for fun.

You're making fantastic progress toward the move. It must feel great!

Yes, it's a useful gizmo. My kids have iphones and they come with that feature. It's fun to see where everybody is when we're all out and about separately.
I wonder it it would have been better if you hadn't told your DD that the texting feature was turned back on. Could you have simply installed the locater without telling her about it? Something tells me she'll "forget" about promising not to text too much. Why would she care about having to repay you if she already owes you money and refuses to work to repay it?

Isn't gratuitous advice special though.

My phone can't be a locatee for some reason-- so she won't be able to locate me as long as I have this phone and I'll have it for the next 9 months at least.

I wish I could have not told her she had texting again, but verizon sent her a text telling her she now had family locator on her phone.

I'm always grateful for advice, which I feel free to use or ignore.
